HAC - 6 May 2023 - scorecard

A turgid first innings, enlivened by some enterprising lower middle-order batting from Tarek and Laurence, yielded just 98 in 50 overs - the pitch was tricky, the outfield very slow, the bowling accurate - and while we began well in the field, Ed Thicknesse taking a fine debut catch, the HAC top order rode their luck and targeted the shorter boundary to knock off the total just before the last hour. Some entertainment with scores level - their skipper, on 0, nicked off and their mainstay opener then fell, causing a minipanic in the marquee as HAC players scrambled for gear - was comic consolation, if not enough to bring us closer to cricketing parity.
