Gaieties v Gardeners 15/05/2022
Sunday's game, finely poised if sodden, was eventually defeated by rain. It was a shame: we'd played through constant drizzle - and sometimes much more than that - to complete Gardeners' innings. In 33 overs, a rain delay docking seven from their allowance, they managed just 144 - and for the loss of eight wickets. All bowlers combined parsimony with menace: Robbie and Harry were fast and accurate at the top; Daniel and Som squeezed through the middle; Tom Whyte and Laurence were masterly at the death. Wickets were shared around, with Tom, on debut, snaring three. Our reply, set to encompass 27 overs, was slow but steady. After an early loss, we were 25-1 off 7.2 overs, both batters set. But the rain, a companion throughout, grew boorish and insisted on being heard. Reluctantly, we listened.
